Genitourinary Development

Renal Gene Ontology Annotation (GOA) Initiative
This initiative, headed by Dr. Rolf Apweiler of the PANDA group at the EBI and Prof. Peter Scambler of the Institute of Child Health, UCL, aims to provide a unique public resource for renal research by generating high-quality, detailed functional GO annotation for mammalian gene products implicated in renal development and disease.

The European Renal Genome Project (EuReGene) aims to discover genes responsible for renal development and disease, their proteins and their actions. To achieve this goal, we have established a consortium of leading scientists, clinicians and SME partners that will focus on the development of novel technologies and discovery tools in functional genomics and their application to kidney research.

National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse (NKUDIC)
The kidney and urologic diseases clearinghouse provides comprehensive information about bladder and renal health and disease for the public. NKUDIC is a service of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), NIH.

National Kidney Foundation
The National Kidney Foundation, Inc (NKF)., is the major voluntary health organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.

UK National Kidney Federation
The NKF is the national charity in the United Kingdom Run by Kidney Patients for Kidney Patients.
The Federation’s aim throughout the UK is to promote both the best renal medical practice and treatment, and the health of persons suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or Established Renal Failure (ERF).
The NKF also supports the related needs of those relatives and friends who care for kidney patients.

Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation
The PKD Foundation is an organization dedicated to fighting polycystic kidney disease (PKD). The mission of the PKD Foundation is to: "Promote programs of research, advocacy, education, support and awareness in order to discover treatments and a cure for Polycystic Kidney Disease and improve the lives of all it affects."

Gene Expression

GenePaint is a digital atlas of gene expression patterns in the mouse.

EMAGE is a free database of 2D and 3D gene expression patterns during mouse embryo development. All EMAGE data is housed in the common framework of the EMAP 3D Digital Atlas.
EMAGE aims:
(a) to provide a focal point for biomedical and clinical researchers to access mouse embryo in situ gene expression data sourced from the community
(b) to offer high-quality curation and annotation of this data in the spatio-temporal and anatomical framework of the EMAP Digital Atlas
(c) to generate and offer methods for analysis of this data
(d) to provide EMAGE in the broader context of other bioinformatics resources to generate a tool for understanding the genetic control of mouse development.

EMAGE also contains the eHistology resource, developed in collaboration with Academic Press/Elsevier, which allows interactive exploration of cellular-resolution colour images detailing mouse development with annotations from the Kaufman "Atlas of Mouse Development".

Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO)
GEO is a gene expression/molecular abundance repository supporting MIAME compliant data submissions, and a curated, online resource for gene expression data browsing, query and retrieval.

Gene Expression Database (GXD)
The Gene Expression Database (GXD) is a community resource for gene expression information from the laboratory mouse. GXD stores and integrates different types of expression data and makes these data freely available in formats appropriate for comprehensive analysis. There is particular emphasis on endogenous gene expression during mouse development.
