About

nephrogenic zone description

Outer zone of the metanephros where nephrogenesis is initiated. During development, the tips of the ureteric bud induce a subregion of the surrounding mesenchyme to condense (cap mesenchyme), portions of which begin to aggregate (pretubular aggregate).
The nephrogenic zone is located at the periphery of the organ and consists mainly of the ureteric tips, the surrounding cap mesenchyme, the pretubular aggregates and the nephrogenic interstitium (or mesenchymal stroma).
